Hey, here's a quick greeting as a proof of concept that I'm making a blog about movies and my thoughts on them.

A few bits about myself, I have an expansive collection of laserdisc that I'm pretty proud of. I have plans on a dedicated post on "why" my laserdisc collection exists in the future.

Movies are something I'm a big fan of, as you've probably guessed. To me it's fascinating seeing how this art form has thrived and evolved since it first came around. That very fascination gave birth to a project I've been working on called "10 movies 10 decades" where I challenge myself to watch 10 films I haven't seen before, each from a different decade. Still polishing up my post on my January edition of this because I was so excited for these particular 10 films.

Anyway, I'm planning on film deep dives and defenses (specifically Super Mario Bros. (1993) which I'm a major advocate of), articles on my 10 movies 10 decades, and who knows what else. I'll try to knock out at least a blog a week, trying for Mondays, so you can expect the first one out next Monday. Until then, I hope you find a new movie to check out.

I thought I'd try to do a regular review as a challenge to keep me writing. I further challenged myself with reviewing any films I had watched in the past week. Since I didn't watch anything relatively recent I thought I'd review the most obscure film I watched this week. Which means I'm reviewing Jack Arnold's 1953 film It Came from Outer Space. Among Jack Arnold's long career as a director, he's known for a short but influential stint where he focused on horror and sci-fi which included Creature from the Black Lagoon , its sequel, Tarantula! , The Incredible Shrinking Man , and a few others, but he kicked off that run with this. Our lead is Richard Carlson, who would further collaborate as the male lead in Creature from the Black Lagoon , both times as a scientist. In Defense of Super Mario Bros (1993)

Well, it's time. I've been pushing this off too long. It is time to defend the 1993 film Super Mario Bros. , directed by married team Annabel Jankel and Rocky Morton. Buckle up because this is going to be a ride. Bob Hoskins as Mario looking kind of incredulous. In order for this defense to work we have to come to one agreement: if you have any baggage of this film not being like the video game, you must release that. It is the first step to allowing yourself to enjoy this film. If you cannot get over that, I will bear you no grudge. I cannot get over how historically inaccurate the 1998 film,  Ever After,  is. I just can't. I've tried it and it's something outside of my power. So if you just can't get over that this movie is nothing like the video game franchise then I wish you well and hope the upcoming Illumination Mario flick with Chris Pratt is for you. REVIEW: Memories of Murder (2003)

In the last two weeks, two related events happened in the United States: one was that a police officer was spooked when an acorn hit his car - he hit the ground, and, terrified, he unloaded his weapon at the acorn; the second was Air Force engineer, Aaron Bushnell, self-immolating in protest of the United States' involvement with Gaza - the responding police officer pulled a gun on him. Cops only know violence. This phrase was rattling around in my head on the day that my partner and I unwittingly chose Memories of Murder for our evening film. We're both fans of Bong Joon-ho and Song Kang-ho, but we just happened to have not seen this particular film yet. So down I sat to watch it with the phrase "cops only know violence" in my head. I didn't realize how primed I was for this film. Set during the 80s in South Korea where a small community was being stalked by the country's first serial killer.
